The
Shaker Museum & Library
Mt. Lebanon, New York
The Shaker Museum and Library, presently located
in Old Chatham, New York, completed a feasibility study for reusing
the North Family and Second Meetinghouse of Mount Lebanon Shaker Village
as the new home of the Museum and Library. As part of the feasibility
study, Page Ayres Cowley Architects, LLC prepared a Historic Structures
Report for the ten extant Shaker buildings and approximately 30 acres
that make-up the North Family as well as the Second Meetinghouse. As
the center of the new institution, the North Family Stone Barn ruin
will be rehabilitated and reused as permanent and rotating gallery
space, visitors center, library and collection storage. Page Ayres
Cowley Architects, LLC, working with Robert Silman Associates, Engineers,
has developed a program for conserving the remaining historic fabric
including the rubble masonry walls, interior and exterior parging and
internal silos. |
